Unifor Local 302 President’s Report- May 30, 2022

I would like to remind everyone that the 15th annual Bob White Charity Classic will take place on Monday August 29, 2022, at the Pine Knot Golf and Country Club in Dorchester. There will be a shotgun start of 10:30 am sharp and the Local has four available spots for golfers. If you are interested in participating, please contact Carla to have your name added to our list of golfers. If we have more than four people sign up, we will draw names to see who will be participating in the tournament. There is no lost time being offered for this event.

On June 26, 2022, there will be a member appreciation day at Canada’s Wonderland. Tickets for adults will be $46.98 and $42.46 for juniors. Make sure you wear your Unifor swag or anything red to win some awesome prizes. To order your tickets please go to: http://www.canadaswonderland.com/uniforday

To all our sisters working in the hospitality industry the Women’s Department has partnered with the Center for Research and Education on Violence Against Women and Children (CREVAWC) at Western University to examine sexual harassment in the Hospitality, Gaming and Airline sectors. Through an anonymous survey the group aims to identify actions to prevent and respond to sexual harassment and violence at work. If you are 18 years of age or older and have been employed in the past 2 years, you are eligible to participate. Please visit http://www.unifor.org/harassmentsurvey to complete the survey.

Don’t forget we have our passes available for the Columbia Employee Store available until June 5, 2022.

The Provincial Election is 4 days away and I hope everyone takes the opportunity to go and vote. I would like to thank Michelle Smith for agreeing to working on Terence Kernaghan’s campaign. Hopefully all your hard work will once again secure Terence as our NDP MPP for London North Centre. The table officers went out to assist Teresa Armstrong NDP MPP for London Fanshawe. We are hopeful to have the entire London region painted orange after this election.

We have received the scholarship applications back and will announce the winners at our June membership meeting.

The National Union announced that there will not be a special election prior to our Constitutional Convention in August. The Executive Board had further discussions today on who we will be supporting at the Constitutional Convention in August. We will have more discussion with the membership at the June General Membership meeting.

We had a solidarity demonstration at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg on May 17, 2022, in conjunction with the day of action campaign that has been occurring across the province.

As I am sure everyone is aware we will have a new Vice President starting tomorrow. It is a difficult decision for people to stand for positions within a Local and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Michelle Flewin for all her hard as Vice President of the Local. Her support over the last few months has been immeasurable and did not go unnoticed.
